Solidarity With CMP Locked Out Workers

Kia ora koutou,

From 2pm on Saturday the 5th of November unions, workers campaign groups and Occupy Otautahi Christchurch are taking to the streets and bringing some much needed attention to the plight of 111 workers up in Palmerston North.

For almost 2 weeks the unionised workforce at Canterbury Meat Packers, near Palmerston North, have been locked out of the workplace by their bosses without pay.

Their crime?

Not accepting a pay cut of up to 30%!
The 111 and their families are now being starved out until they either accept the deal or triumph over these disgusting bosses with the support of the people of Aotearoa!

An urgent fund has been set up and money is beginning to pour in – however with so many mouths to feed we have a lot still to do!

The account for donations towards the 111 is here:

KiwiBank account Name: Disputes Fund.
Account number: 38-9007-0894028-08.

Canterbury Meat Packers is a subsidiary to ANZCO Foods – a massive multi national corporation supplying meat

products across the globe. International pressure on this group will also be paramount for the future of our brothers and sisters.

Large businesses such as McDonalds NZ are supplied by CMP – their meat patties being sold today are supplied by scab methods. We all have a duty to help our brothers and sisters in the North – an injury to one is an injury to all!

The Occupy team are meeting at Occupy Corner from 10am onwards and heading to Hornby from 1pm on bus.

The picket itself kicks off at 2pm at ANZCO, 100 Carmen Road (5 minute walk North from Hornby Mall)

This, it is hoped, will be a springboard for further actions of solidarity in Otautahi – let’s get together at the picket and spin some ideas 🙂
